The Old Post Office Art & Therapy Centre

About Me

My Name is Tania Bryan I am the Life Drawing Tutor and Arts Development Manager here at The Old Post Office Art & Therapy Centre. My role is to lead and coordinate a collective of Artists in the development of art and crafts workshops.

My Background

I graduated From Howard Gardens UWIC in 2006 with a BA in Fine Art Painting and Drawing and went on to work as a College Lecturer teaching Art and Design at Coleg Gwent which I embraced for 12 years.

Working as a Lecturer gave me the experience and ability to teach a range of learning levels from pre GCSE, AS/A level to pre degree Level 4.

I have a successful record within education where I would readily assume responsibility of managing a team of faculty in order to develop and implement a Pre Degree Foundation Course where by students were supported and taught the complex task of progressing on to higher education and to further a career within their specialist area.

Throughout my teaching career I have taught anything from Life Drawing, Ceramics, Fine Art, Illustration, History and Graphics.

About My Artwork

Outside of my teaching role I have always loved painting and drawing with a diverse interest in almost any subject matter, however, if I had to be selective I guess I would predominately always choose animals or nature and the sentimental relationship I have with birds, I enjoy observing their fragility, form and in particular the fleeting moments of their presence. To render my images I take inspiration from still life taxidermy, as birds are very difficult to capture unless using photography. My technique aims to deconstruct the bird to its simplicity erasing details so that the viewer can interpret the rest. The image is partially present just as it would be if we saw a bird in nature or in the case of taxidermy the body is present but the spirit is absent.
