What is Life Drawing?
Life drawing, also known as figure drawing, is the act of drawing a living person. Normally this means drawing a nude model in real life – i.e. not from a photograph or from memory or imagination. Capturing the human form has been a very important and fascinating topic to artists for centuries, drawing from life helps the artist understand and learn how to capture the proportions of the anatomy, and this is a vital part of most human portraiture and figure drawing.
ABOUT THE COURSE
This course is aimed to suit all levels and is aimed to be a relaxed and informal environment.
During this course you will learn the traditional ways of measuring the human anatomy in order to improve proportions which are good for beginners just starting out, however, alternative ways of capturing the human form will also be taught so that you can find a technique suited to you
While learning methods to draw the figure you will also be given options to try out new media and ways in which to approach using them when handling the human form, you will be given options to use both wet and dry media, from pencil, pastel, charcoal to paint etc.
Most media will be covered in the course fee including easels and boards, however, it is advised to bring your own paper and brushes. There will be a male and female model to draw on alternative weeks. Refreshments are available, and during the sessions, there will be breaks for both student and model.
The aim of this course is for you to not only develop your life drawing skills but also have fun and find a technique that you can fall in love and utilise in other areas of art.
